ENT considerations for the child with a restricted airway.

Associate Professor Shyan Vijayasekaran MBBS, FRACS grew up in Perth, studied at the University of Western Australia and graduated with distinctions in Medicine and Surgery.  He subsequently trained in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in London and Perth.

Shyan completed a Fellowship in Paediatric Otolaryngology with Professor Robin Cotton at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, University of Cincinnati, USA. He is one of the few international graduates of this prestigious programme. Shyan was awarded the Charles Ferguson prize by the American Society of Paediatric Otolaryngology in 2005.
Shyan works at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and several other institutions in Perth. He is a Clinical Associate Professor affiliated with the School of Surgery and the school of Paediatrics and Child Health, University of Western Australia. His clinical and research interests included disorders of airway, voice, swallowing, management of hearing loss and chronic otitis media. 
He has published over 80 papers in peer reviewed journals, chapters in textbooks and has been an invited speaker at several national and international meetings. Shyan is married with 4 children and enjoys travel, running and yoga.

 

Quality in Australian dentistry: Global trends and national reform in the quality agenda and its impact on dentistry.

Marc Tennant marc-tennant

Marc, will share stories and learning’s from a decades of experience in addressing the complex issues of quality in dentistry. Marc as one of a handful of senior dental accreditation surveyors in the health quality systems both locally in Australia and Internationally will give insights into the process and outcomes.

Marc will also talk about some of the wider agenda in health quality internationally and how this impacts on Australian dentistry; bring forward examples of system failures that we can all learn from. He will also discuss system reform in quality in dental education and the national and global trends in excellence in education.

Marc, as always, will lift rocks that no one else wants light to shine under. As an independent academic, accepting no finance from governments, his talk will for sure be a thought provoking insight into innovation and reform in Australian Oral Health, unfettered by influence.
