SENSE-ational Mealtimes and Diet Myths

Dr  Denise Stapelton |  Accredited Practising Dietitian

Do you know families with children who eat few foods, refuse entire food groups, will not eat family meals, become anxious, have tantrums or gag with new food or always want to eat the same food?

Do you wonder what is the truth about fad diets, sports drinks, coconut oil, A2 milk, detox diets, irritable bowel and trans fats?

Denise Stapleton, Accredited Practising Dietitian, will present her experiences in dealing with these issues. When we SENSE-itively tune in to our sensory preferences we discover what we notice, enjoy, tolerate, are bothered by and avoid about food. When we are equipped with more facts about nutrition we are able to make sense of the diet claims that surround us.

Dr. Denise Stapleton is a passionate supporter of families with mealtime difficulties and therapeutic dietary needs throughout Australia. Denise completed a PhD in 2002 and published in both nutrition and medical journals. Together with an occupational therapist in 2013, she co-authored the SENSE-ational Mealtimes book.

As a private practitioner and senior community dietitian, Denise currently helps children of all ages, and clinicians who support families, explore tricky mealtime behaviour, fussy/picky eating and feeding difficulties. Her unique approach enables families to develop ‘just right stretching’ of food that is accepted and enjoyed, so that mealtimes are pleasurable for the whole family.

Denise is passionate about sharing her insights with those who service our communities.
