Forensic Odontology: What have we been doing in the last few years?         Dr Jenny Ball  |  Forensic OdontologistJenny Ball

 

This presentation looks at the role played by forensic odontology in disaster victim identification in small and mass disasters.

Jenny graduated from UWA in1983 and has worked part time drilling and filling since them.

From the late 1990s Jenny has been involved in forensic odontology. She has completed a Masters in Forensic Science and a Graduate Diploma in Forensic Odontology. Along with case work she has been involved with a number of mass disasters including the Bali bombings, the Thai tsunami, the  Victorian bushfires and MH17 plane crash. She is actively involved with the Australian Society of Forensic Odontology. Jenny also demonstrates in the Op Tech Laboratory with the up and coming new members of the profession.

The goal of oral cancer screening is to identify mouth cancer early, when there is a greater chance for a cure. Looking for cancer before a person has any symptoms may mean the resulting cancer will be easier to treat. By the time symptoms appear, cancer may have begun to spread leading to more aggressive and painful therapies.

Using Complementary Medicine to Reduce Pain and Anxiety from a Dental Visit   – Kareen Dunlop   |   Registered Nurse Educator   Kareen Dunlop

Not everyone loves going to the dentist and certainly the fear of pain brings with it quite some anxiety.  If you deal with fearful patients then this lecture presented by a passionate integrative nurse educator will give you the knowledge to improve your patients experience at the dentist.  Kareen will also give you some simple tools to utilise complementary methods to reduce pain and inflammation.

 

Kareen Dunlop is a nurse educator who has over thirty years’ experience in the operating theatre and in infection control.  She is also a practicing naturopath, acupuncturist and herbalist who is passionate about integrating evidence based complementary medicine with western medicine health.  She is a very accomplished educator and loves to impart her knowledge and skills to others in a way that will keep you engaged.
